County government tenders in Kenya: how to find them and win them
Reviewed 2026-10-23. General information, not legal advice: always follow the tender document and the official government sources.
Why counties matter
Kenya's 47 counties buy a wide range of goods, works and services: construction and roads, supplies, medical items, ICT, consultancy and more. Many county tenders are modest in size, which makes them realistic for small and medium businesses.
Where they are published
County tenders appear on the government's public procurement portal and often on the county's own website and in notice boards or newspapers. Not every county publishes consistently, so it is easy to miss notices.
Pick your counties
Choose counties you can serve in practice: where you can deliver on time and manage the work. Local knowledge and presence can help, and some tenders favour local suppliers where the rules allow.
Read the notice carefully
County notices often have short deadlines. Check the closing date and time, any pre-bid meeting, and whether the tender is reserved for a group such as youth, women or persons with disabilities.
Be ready before the notice
Keep your registration, tax compliance, business permit and past-work evidence current, so you can bid quickly when a good tender appears. Many bids fail because a certificate has expired.
Follow counties automatically
Zabuni Radar lists open county tenders and can email you the new ones for the counties and categories you choose, plus a reminder before each closes.
